INDIA is a special place to Simon Parkin as is evident in his exhibition, “Beyond Seeing”, which opens at Tameside Central Gallery, Ashton, on Saturday, September 27.
Parkin has visited India every year since 2009 and created a series of paintings based on his experiences there. He mixes Western and Eastern traditions to create vibrant and colourful canvases.
He said: “I show simple everyday activities such as making tea, washing clothes, or shopping. My intention is to draw parallels with western cultures but also to show the differences.”
Parkin, who was born in Glossop in 1964, graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1995 with first-class honours. He has travelled extensively in North Africa and India.
He will be present at the preview at Tameside Central Art Gallery, Old Street, Ashton, on Saturday, September 27, 11am to 1pm
