Tameside Council have scrapped free parking after 3pm in council owned car parks saying government cuts are to blame. Motorists were able to park free of charge after 3pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Cllr.Peter Robinson,Tamesdid Council cabinet member for transport said "over the last three years the council has undergone 41 per cent cuts to it's funding with more cuts to come we've had to review all services to remain effective, we must maximise external income to help sustain other critical frontline and statutory services".

"Given this challenging situation,it's important that Tameside Counci'ls car park charges cover the cost of the service and are competitive with other service providers".

Tameside Council made the decision before christmas but decided to delay implementing the charges until after the festive period.
