Curzon Ashton (celebrating above) go to the top of the Evostick First Division North after their 2-1 home victory in the New Years Day derby at home to Mossley. Curzon and Ashton United won all 3 festive games whereas Tameside's other clubs Hyde FC, Stalybridge Celtic, Droylsden and Mossley lost all their holiday games.
Hyde FC lost 3-0 away on Boxing Day to Macclesfield,but performed much better in a thrilling game at home to Wrexham(above) 2 days later. Although going down 5-2 to Wrexham Hyde produced one of the best performances of the season with the scoreline flattering the visitors. Both sets of supporters gave the teams a standing ovation after a very entertaining game, Hyde's goals were scored by Scott Spencer and Connor Hughes. The New years day vistors to Ewen Fields were Macclesfield in the return fixture unfortunately despite another good performance they went down by the same scoreline as Boxing Day, 3- 0. After the festive period Hyde are still looking certainties for relegation from the Skrill Premier with only 3 points and no wins so far this season
In the Skrill North Stalybridge Celtic lost all their holiday games,5-0 away to Altrincham on boxing day, 3-2 at home to Colwyn Bay two days later and 5-0 at home to Altrincham in the return game,
The Evo-Stick Premier derby on New years at the Butchers arms between Droylsden and Ashton United saw United annihilate Droylsden 9-0 with Martin Pilkington and Matt Chadwick scoring a hatrick each and goals from Joe O'Neil,Gary Gee,and Kayde Coppin. The other 2 games saw Ashton beat F C United of Manchester 2-1 at home in front of a bumper crowd of over a 1,000 on Boxing day and win 4-0 at home to Stafford Rangers two days later. Ashton are now 5th in the Evostick Premier just behind FC united.Droylsden lost their other 2 games over the period 1-0 to Trafford on boxing day and 4-0 away to Stamford on December 28th, leaving them rooted at the bottom of the table with only 2 points.
Curzon Ashton went to the top of the Evostick First Division North after beating Mossley 2-1 in a close fought New years day derby at the Tameside Stadium, Matty Warburton scoring twice for Curzon in the first half with Douggie Carroll replying for Mossley in the second half. Curzon won both the other two games over the period,3-1 away at New Mills(goals from Ryan Brooke (2) and Jonathan Hunt and two days later winning 3-2 in a close fought game at Ossett Albion with goals from Luke Horrocks,Mark Brett and Matthew Kay. Curzon are now a point above Warrington at the top of the table with two games in hand. Mossley lost their other two holiday games going down at home 2-0 to Burscough and losing 3-2 on Boxing day to Bamber Bridge.
All in all a holiday period of extremes for Tameside's football clubs, delight for Curzon Ashton and Ashton United and despair for Hyde FC, Stalybridge Celtic, Droylsden and Mossley.
