Lymefield Action Group recently formed after a public meeting in response to Tameside Borough Council's decision to sell off Lymefield Visitor Centre in Broadbottom, hopes to put together a plan to run the visitor centre themselves . Tameside Council have given the group a month to come up with a rescue package.
The Deputy Council Leader John Taylor said "if the community group comes up with a plan then we would would work with them as long as it would not cost the council anything.
If the group manage to rescue the building it would follow other successful takeovers by local community groups in Tameside. The Werneth Community Centre in Hyde, Denton West and Haughton Green libraries have all been taken over by community groups locally.
