In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, Tameside Council fully funded the Key103 bus’s visit to Mossley Hollins High School.

Advice and guidance workshops were held on Thursday 8 March featuring industry figures and experienced apprentices.

Once aboard, pupils from years 8, 9 and 10 met with a Positive Steps careers advisor to learn about apprenticeships and the labour market while discussing their aspirations.

Four separate sessions took place where groups of children got the chance to hear the experiences of the apprentice ambassadors from Tameside Council and The Growth Company.

As part of the classes the young people also answered questions in mock radio interviews where they discussed their chosen career path.

Pupils left the day with five facts about apprenticeships and an understanding of how other young people have carved out successful careers using this route.

Stuart Marshall, head teacher at Mossley Collins High School, said: “At Mossley Hollins High School we very much value the importance in supporting our pupils in making informed decision about their future careers.

“We would like to pass on our thanks to the Key 103 team who provided such a great experience for our pupils. We have received very positive feedback from all pupils involved who were able to learn a great deal about apprenticeships from the KEY 103 bus experience.”

Cllr Brenda Warrington, Executive Leader of Tameside Council, said: “By investing in events like this Tameside Council is securing the area’s future workforce and entrepreneurs. Pupils of today will be the next generation’s mechanics, engineers, barristers, nurses and much more, and it is imperative we offer them the support they need to find suitable work after they leave school.

“We will support all our schools to ensure every pupil receives quality careers information, advice and guidance to help inspire young people as they progress along their chosen career path. This is an on-going priority for Tameside Council.”
