Summer activities and events for all the family in Tameside

There are plenty of for all the family this summer in Tameside such as classic stories at the Theatre in the Park sessions plenty countryside activities, and Portland Basin Museum, Ashton, will again be hosting the popular Jolly Holidays and Meet Tommy Atkins sessions. In addition, you can visit the annual Open Art exhibition at Tameside Central Gallery, Old Street, Ashton, or Over the Rainbow at Portland Basin Museum. Watch out for the Animal Magic exhibition at the Astley Cheetham Gallery on Trinity Street, Stalybridge.

Jolly Holidays: Artist-led craft activities at Portland Basin Museum, Ashton, every Tuesday and Thursday, 11am to 3pm. 50p per child.
Meet Tommy Atkins: Find out first-hand how British soldiers lived on the First World War’s Western Front. Every Wednesday, 11am to 3pm, at Portland Basin Museum, Ashton.
July 28
Going Native: Join us for a pow-wow party in the park. Tracks and trails, build a tepee and make a Native American headdress or dreamcatcher. 11am to 3pm in the orchard area at Cheetham’s Park, Stalybridge.
August 1
National Day of Stitch: Bring your latest stitching project and join in this national event. 11am to 3pm at Portland Basin Museum.
August 2
Family Safari: Explore ponds, meadows and woodlands on a short wildlife walk. Don’t forget your picnic. 11am at car park, bottom of Meadow Lane, Haughton Green.
Kids in the Environment: Fun forest activities for children aged seven to 12. 10am to noon at Park Bridge Heritage Centre.
August 5
Go Wild Outdoors: Discover wildlife in the park, get creative with nature and try your hand at woodland crafts. 1pm at Oakgates car park, Hartley Street, off Huddersfield Road, Millbrook.
August 6
The Wind in the Willows: Theatre in the Park by Pendle Production. 11am in Hyde Park. 2.30pm at the open-air theatre in Mossley Park.
August 11
Wood You Weave It?: A fun family day. Help to create a masterpiece on the giant log loom. Weave with willow. 11am to 3pm at Bayley Hall, Hyde Park.
August 13
The Secret Garden: Theatre in the Park with Pendle Productions. 11am in Stamford Park. 2.30pm in Dukinfield Park.
August 14
Nature Detectives: Seek out clues to discover Tameside’s wildlife. 1pm at Castle Clough car park, Buckton Vale Road, Carrbrook.

Fun with Flints and Stones: Stone Age fun for all the family. Have a go at wattle and daub building. Try some cave painting. 11am to 3pm at Lymefield Broad Mills, Broadbottom.

Wet Wellie Walk: Splash through the streams of the Brushes Valley. Wellies essential.
