The opening of the £1.4m 4C Community Centre at Christ Church, Ashton-under-lyne has been delayed because the project needs further cash.
Project Chairman Jonathan Hindle said " work is still progressing behind the scenes and the building itself is structurally complete, but the scheme still needs a heft chunk of cash". Within the next month work will start on the landscaping.
The Christ Church Community developments charity won a £500,000 grant from the Big Lottery in April 2010 as well as £900,000 from the Community Builders Fund to build the centre. The 4C centre will have on-site renewable solar panels and will make use of solar thermal technology to help lower the carbon footprint and running costs of the building. It will include a hall for community groups, a cafe area, kitchen bar and meeting rooms for local residents.
