Hyde United have become the latest football club to be owned by its fans, a joint statement by John Manship and Hyde United Supporters Club was issued over the last few days. It was confirmed that the purchase of the club’s ‘A’ shares was now finalised and the takeover complete.
Hyde fans announced earlier this summer that they were looking to gain control of the Evo-Stik Premier club after owner John Manship revealed he was willing to sell up. The new Chairman, Joe Kitchen, praised Leicestershire businessman Manship for helping to make the transition a speedy and straightforward process. The club’s name has also reverted from Hyde FC to Hyde United
They have been taking advice from FC United, the largest fan-owned club in the UK, and embarked on fund-raising to complete the takeover. Joe Kitchen said “It is a great time to be a fan at Ewen Fields. We have got our ‘United’ name back and all the fans are doing amazing things to raise money to ensure the club has a secure future. I would like to thank John for the very preferential terms he offered the supporters to purchase the club, I know he could have got a lot more if he had taken other offers.”
John Manship said “I always had great respect for the fans at Hyde. They gave so much and always out sang other fans even though greatly outnumbered. I feel very happy I could help them own their club. I am sure they will do well.”
