NOMINATIONS are now open for the Pride of Tameside Sports Awards.
The search is on to find Tameside’s top sports performers, teams, groups and individuals before nominations close on 31 July.
Last year saw a record number of nominations celebrating the amazing work in sport and health across Tameside.
The fantastic 2015 winners, all highlighted as part of the Council’s Proud Tameside campaign, included U11’s wheelchair racing champion Anya Waugh and retired school teacher and sports leader Donal Townson.
The categories for 2016 are Coach of the Year, Sports Achiever of the Year, Disabled Sports Achiever of the Year, Alex Williams Volunteer of the Year, Unsung Hero of the Year, Club of the year and Changing Lifestyle Special Recognition Award.
Chief Executive of Active Tameside Mark Tweedie said: “There are so many fantastic opportunities for health, fitness and sport in Tameside and these are only set to increase.
“This event gives us the chance to celebrate not only those opportunities, but the people behind them as well as sport performers and other inspiring individuals. I’m sure this is going to be another brilliant year so we really encourage people to get nominating.”
The 2016 Sports awards will take place at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday 23 September.
Winners at the Sports Awards will then go on to represent Tameside at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards.
