You can take part in the Grand Scarecrow Festival in Hyde Park on Sunday, October 19 (noon to 3pm) and win a prize. You could build a scarecrow on your own or with your school, business or community group. There are great prizes in all four sections.
The event runs alongside Operation Farm’s Harvest Festival where families will have the chance to enjoy activities such as fruit pressing (bring your own apples), apple-tasting, storytelling, music, poetry, cooking demonstrations and much more.
Additionally there is a children’s art competition with the theme of “Harvest Festival”. There are three age groups – fives and under, five to sevens and eights and over. Each offers a £10 voucher as the prize. Just make sure your entry is no bigger than A3 size.
Cllr Jackie Lane, Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for culture, said: “Now it’s autumn the scarecrow competition and Harvest festival are a great way to celebrate as a community. It’s the ideal opportunity for people to come together and possibly win a prize along the way.”
Details of both competitions are available at www.tameside.gov.uk/scarecrowfestival
All entries must be registered before the day of the competition. At the last festival, in 2013, there were some superb scarecrows!
