Tameside Toy Appeal still desperately needs gifts for babies and teenagers

THERE'S still time to donate to the Tameside Toy Appeal and bring some Christmas magic to local children and young people living in poverty.

An amazing 2000 toys have been generously donated so far but the appeal, run by Action Together with the support of Tameside Council, still needs more to ensure there are enough gifts. In particular, there are shortage of gifts suitable for under twos and teenagers.

The easiest way to donate – and help with funds to buy gift vouchers for teenagers - is via the Justgiving page.

But you can also donate new and unsed toys and gifts at any children's centre, Asda in Ashton, or one of the other community drop off points listed here. The deadline for donations is Friday 11 December.

A big thank you to the 60 doorstep elves and 32 sleigh drivers, collecting and delivering toys to children's centres – who then distribute to local families in need.

Tameside Council Executive Member Cllr Bill Fairfoull, who is responsible for children and families, said: "There has been a fantastic response to the Tameside Toy Appeal – thank you to everyone who has already donated or is volunteering their time. However, we still need more donations to ensure every child and young person living in poverty receives a Christmas present – particularly babies and teenagers, who people don't always think to buy for. It really does make a difference so please do give generously and help bring some smiles on Christmas Day morning."
